're willing to do this. is this the fight that the obama administration really wants to take up freshly inaugurated, freshly into its new term to try to map out big, bold leadership instead of digging these trenches down the line that are going to have pitfalls and stakes all buried in it? >> i come from the school of thought that this country has overcome a lot more than just a few extra dollars. i do believe that this economy will continue to thrive, this economy will continue to move forward. i don't believe that we're going to go into a huge, deep recession again if these bush tax cuts expire. i do believe that you can strengthen the economy if you let everything go off the cliff and come back and put in front of the american people and do a better job for the economy. there's up side either way you go. the president has got boehner in an untenable position. he doesn't have very many avenues to a victory right now but he's got a good escape, thomas. all john boehner has to do to exit out of this quickly is to say he won the election, we didn't, the american people in every survey sa

to bunk. why didn't they follow the advice of president obama and his administration? well they definitely would be in the hole on that. i do think there would be a lot of huh poke craw see. they were filling up their gas tanks and putting them in the garbage. listen, these schools have to make money. if they don't invest in these companies they will invest in companies that use fossil fuels to the ambassador's point. >> i want to know how many went into your sleeves. >> possibly a few. >> they are shine intoe and delightful. >> and lipstick. petroleum is in my lipstick. >> petroleum is in a lot of things and i don't -- i won't mention it. the emergency nurse will find out later. i am taking off my glasses to make a point which makes it hard to read the rest of the question. it makes the students look good about themselves. realistically you can affect change. >> i would like to add your glasses to mine and make the next point. we will put them -- >> yes. >> what these kids should do is be comfortable with fossil fuels because they will be pumping them with their useless degrees. what we n
's right. house republicans say there will be no deal if tax ritz go up and the obama administration says it's ready to go thelma and louise style over the cliff on january 1. if that's the case, wendell goler live at the white house with what we know is going on behind the scenes. anything happening? >> steve, the president and house speaker john boehner talked on the phone yesterday, but they agreed not to characterize their conversation. so it's unclear how much progress they made. from the outside, it does seem they've moved a bit closer with boehner now agreeing to raise tax collection from the wealthy, though not by raising tax rates. >> we've got to cut spending and i believe to put revenues on the table. the revenues we're putting on the table will come from, guess who, the rich! there are ways to limit deductions, close loopholes, and have the same people pay more of their money to the federal government without raising tax rates which we believe will harm our economy. >> the president lobbied big business leaders yesterday with an appearance at the business round table. his aide
is how are we going to do it? and the obama administration almost like a character from "seinfeld" said we are going to do this out of spite and said we are going to have to raise the rates rather than do this loophole closing thing and all of the rest. the problem with that is that presidents get very few do officer, one ever the few that they get is right after an election they can change the tone, they can sort of start over and instead of doing that and trying to figure out how to fulfill this promise that obama has always made about being bipartisan he's decided just to sort of do the same thing he did with the stimulus, which is to try to steam roll the republicans, to crush them, to placate his base, and it has the potential to create another four years of partisan whommer and tong fighting in washington. jon: i wanted to get your reaction to what the treasury secretary had to say in that report from mike emanuel a minute ago. he was asked flat out is the white house ready to go over the fiscal cliff and boom he says, absolutely, as if that is a good thing. i mean there are defen
't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. and under this administration, under president obama, we have seen record deficits and a record debt accumulate, and yet he keeps demanding that we raise taxes to pay for more spending. this will only hurt our economy. ernst and young has done an analysis of the president's proposal and said it will cost several hundreds thousands of jobs. there is a better way and the speaker has laid it out. it is an approach that calls for tax reform by reforming the tax code and passing responsible spending cuts in order to get our fiscal house in order. that's what america wants. the big things. this is our moment to provide that leadership that america desperately wants and we stand here ready to take the action necessary. >> the american people are hurting right now and now is the moment where we need to step up to the plate and solve the problem. i don't know how any of us can look our kids and grandkids in the eye and explain to them that we aren't willing to pay for the things we are enjoying today but just going to send them the bill. that's
quota for our pork, but this administration under president obama has fallen short in its obligation to stand up with u.s. farmers on these sanitary and phyto-sanitary standards. in other words, using sound science instead of some i illegitimate reason for keeping our products out of russia. i have communicated time and again what i expected of this administration because they have to negotiate for us. in june 2011, i led a bipartisan letter with senators nelson and 26 other senators to ambassador kirk requesting his negotiators follow the steps that we have taken during consideration of the past w.t.o. accessions. so i refer to china and vietnam as examples for this administration to follow. when these countries joined the w.t.o., we use these opportunities to obtain firm sanitary, phyto-sanitary commitments from those countries that went beyond the w.t.o. sanitary, phyto-sanitary agreements. in particular, we obtained further commitments in areas of meat inspection equivalence. in addition, in june of this year, i sent another bipartisan letter with senator nelson of nebraska and 3

[ applause ] >> stephanie: we have got all the mulch we need between stephanie miller's ears. >> pow! >> stephanie: don't confuse mulch with soggy shredded wheat. happy face. >> what does that mean? >> stephanie: if anyone is potential fodder or mulch this gas bag is. >> yeah so there. >> stephanie: all right. thank you.
